Building A Chicken Coop – DIY Guide

The plans in this book are so well illustrated that somebody who has never attempted a DIY project before will be able to do it. There are several things you have to be aware of when you are looking for plans to build a Chicken Coop. You want it to be constructed properly and to be a safe and happy environment for your chickens.

A few of the things you’re going to have to consider before you build a Chicken Coop:

Ventilation

Proper ventilation of the coop is very important.  You also want it to be a pleasant experience when you go to the chicken coop to collect the eggs or manage your chickens. It is therefore essential to make sure that there is good ventilation throughout the coop. If you live in a hot climate, it can get smelly in the coop and uncomfortable for the chickens.

Light Source

Enough light for the chickens is another aspect you have to keep in mind.  You want to build  the coop at the right angle towards the sun so that it will get a lot of natural sunlight.  If you can’t achieve this, you need to make sure you have some artificial light to supplement for it.

The Size

The total size of the coop is going to depend on how many chickens you want to keep.  Get the plans for the correct size you require. A small coop can accommodate 6 or less chickens. If you’re planning on dealing with more chickens, you need to get the plans to a medium or large sized coop.

If you are serious about the building of a chicken coop yourself and to save yourself time and money building it, it’s best you invest in a quality do-it-yourself guide.

    Who am I

    Hi, I am Tony Murphy.

I am the grandfather of a lovely 2 year old grand daughter who loves animals very much.

As a child my dad had a chicken run in the backyard. Caring for the chickens was my task and I had to collect the eggs from the nests every day.

As my grand daughter loves animals so much I thought it a good idea to build a chicken coop in the backyard for her.

An added advantage to having a Chicken Coop in the backyard is the daily supply of fresh eggs.
